Reggie McNeal 2004

Reggie McNeal was second-team All-Big 12 in 2004.

This was billed as a comeback year for Dennis Franchione. Things started with a whimper in Salt Lake City, when Alex Smith ran Urban Meyer's Utah offense to perfection in a 41-21 blowout. But the Aggies defeated Clemson and Kansas State in consecutive weeks — riding strong play from QB Reggie McNeal and RB Courtney Lewis. A big win over Oklahoma State in Stillwater had the Aggies on a four-game winning streak. But in Waco, conference doormat Baylor dealt the No. 17 Aggies an unforgettable overtime loss. It was A&M's first loss to Baylor in 14 tries. No. 2 Oklahoma won a tight game at Kyle Field the following week, and Texas again defeated the Aggies in Austin to close out the season. At 7-4, A&M earned a Cotton Bowl berth — its first New Year's Day game in six years — but were steamrolled in it by Tennessee.
