June 9, 2008: The Spirit of Aggieland was played as a wakeup call on the Space Shuttle's STS-124 mission, for Aggie astronaut Mike Fossum.

Fossum, who grew up in McAllen, has been to the International Space Station three times, and the last visit was six months long (June to November 2011). Fossum was station commander from September 2011 until handing over his duties and returning to Earth in November 2011. He retired from NASA in 2017. He is now the chief operating officer at Texas A&M Galveston.
