July 24, 1974: Former Texas A&M linebacker Keith Mitchell was born in Garland.
Mitchell was a second-team All-American in 1995, and made the first team in 1996 with a 14.5-sack season. He was also the defensive MVP in A&M's 22-20 Alamo Bowl victory over Michigan.
Mitchell went undrafted out of A&M, but caught on with the New Orleans Saints. He was a starter by his second season and earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2000 when he had 60 tackles, 6.5 sacks, an interception, four fumble recoveries and two defensive touchdowns.
Mitchell would spend his final two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans before a spinal cord injury cut his career short at the age of 31. When he recovered, he took up yoga. Today, he is a master certified yoga instructor.
