AUSTIN — Freshman Athing Mu set a school record in the 1,500 meter, but both Texas A&M track and field teams fell short in its dual meet against Texas on Saturday at the Mike A. Myers Stadium.
The Texas A&M women’s track team moved up a spot to fifth in this week’s U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s outdoor weekly top 25 poll. LSU is first with 416.78 points followed by Southern Cal 353.43, Texas 352.32, Arkansas 283.63 and A&M 271.93. Rounding out the top 10 are BYU 236.72, Alabama 188.66, Florida 181.05, Florida State 143.65 and Kentucky 134.35.
Texas A&M’s Tyra Gittens, Athing Mu and Charokee Young earned weekly Southeastern Conference track and field awards Tuesday. Gittens was named the SEC women’s field athlete of the week, while Young was named the women’s newcomer and Mu the women’s co-freshman of the week.

The Texas A&M men’s and women’s track and field teams were ranked in the opening Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Associations outdoor national ratings announced on Monday. The Aggie men open at No. 2 with seven marks ranked in the nation’s top 10, while the women come in at No. 6 with five marks in the top 10.
