No. 8 Texas A&M men's tennis team will host NCAA tournament's first, second rounds

The eighth-ranked Texas A&M men’s tennis team earned a No. 8 seed in the NCAA men’s tennis championship and will host the first and second rounds at the Mitchell Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday.

The Aggies (16-8) will face New Mexico (8-9) at 2 p.m. Friday. No. 24 Oklahoma and Denver will compete earlier in the day with the winners from each game playing at 2 p.m. Saturday in the second round.

Singles and doubles brackets will be released on Tuesday at NCAA.com.

Texas A&M’s No. 23 Tatiana Makarova made the field for the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship in singles, while she and Jayci Goldsmith made the national doubles tournament, the NCAA announced Wednesday. Makarova and Goldsmith are ranked 26th in doubles. The singles and doubles tournaments will follow the team championship and will run from May 23-28 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.

Texas A&M senior Valentin Vacherot was named the Southeastern Conference men’s tennis player of the year, becoming the first Aggie to earn the award Friday. Vacherot also made the All-SEC first team, while Hady Habib and Carlos Aguilar made the second team, and Raphael Perot named the SEC’s All-Freshman team.
